There are approximately
450 Micro Soccer players each season.
Players are divided into
10 countries (i.e. levels) based on age and experience, then the
countries are divided into co-ed teams. We spend a great deal of time
and effort trying to balancing teams by age, skill level, and attitude.
The ages shown below are VERY approximate and should only be used as a
guide.

Argentina, Italy and
Germany leagues are designed for 4 and 5 year olds. These countries
play on a 20 x 30 yard field with a 3.5 size ball. This bracket has 6
players per team and plays a 3 versus 3 game without a goalie. The lack
of a goalie or keeper/sweeper keeps the game safer for these younger
players. It also allows for a high scoring game and thus a very fun and
positive experience for the players. However, no actual score is kept.
In this age bracket, players will learn dribbling
skills and the basic flow of the game. Coaches will facilitate/referee
the game from the sidelines but should stay out of the game.
Spain, USA, China, and
France leagues are designed for 5 to 7 year olds. These countries
play on a 20 x 30 yard field with a 3.5 size ball. This bracket has 5
players per team and plays a 3 versus 3 game including a goalie. The
goalie is encouraged to take on more of a keeper/sweeper role, playing
in the goal during defensive plays, but moving forward to “sweep” the
field during offensive plays. No score is kept.
In this age bracket, players will learn about the
triangle, the basic formation of soccer. They will also learn about
passing, blocking, shielding, and tackling. Players should know the
basic flow of the game at this point: kick-off, throw-in, corner-kick,
goal-kick. Coaches will facilitate and ref the game from the field, but
should stay out of the game.
Mexico and Brazil
leagues are designed for 7 to 10 year olds. These countries play on a
25x35 yard field with a size 4 ball. This bracket has 7 players per team
and plays a 4 versus 4 games including a goalie. The goalie is
encouraged to take on more of a keeper/sweeper role, playing in the goal
during defensive plays, but moving forward to “sweep” the field during
offensive plays. No score is kept.
In this age bracket players will begin to learn
more about the actual strategy of the game; players will start to
position themselves utilizing the triangle, the basic formation of
soccer. They will continue to learn about passing, blocking, shielding,
and tackling. Players should have a good working understanding of the
rules of the game at this point: kick-off, throw-in, corner-kick,
goal-kick. Coaches will facilitate/referee the game from the sidelines
and should stay out of the game.
Practices last 1-1/2 hours.
The England league is
designed for very experienced 9 to 12 year old players .All 11 and 12
year-olds will automatically be placed in England and should pay the
England fee. Experienced 9 and 10 year-olds who have already played a
season in Brazil or on a Flagstaff Soccer Club Travel Team can request
to be placed in England on the registration form and should pay the
England fee. The ultimate decision will be made by the Team Formation
Committee based on skill evaluations and England’s total player numbers.
If there is no room for a 9 or 10 year-old in England, we will place
them in Brazil.
England games
are faster paced and much more physical and competitive than traditional
Micro Soccer games. They play on a 50x75 yard field with a size 4 ball.
This division has 10 players per team and plays a 7 versus 7 game
including a goalie. We introduce the concept of off-sides. Referees and
linesmen will facilitate the game, coaches stay off of the field.
England does keep score.
Players entering this bracket should have superior
ball handling skills and a thorough understanding of the game. This
division focuses on game tactics and positioning, while continuing to
develop ball handling, blocking, tackling, and shielding skills.
Practices last 1-1/2 hours.
* Size 3.5 and 4 balls available opening day for $12.00 at field. |
